Project Blogs

Thursday 29th November 2018

it is now coming very close to our gig at the jolly farmer, after tomorrow we officially have one more practice week until the week of the performance so we have been making sure all of our songs are ready to perform, tomorrow we are going to have a full dress run through as well as the 10th and 11th of December before the show.  today  me, Millie and Craig recorded ‘ somewhere only we know’ so it could be sent off for our portfolios, this helped me a lot because that meant i got to perform in front of people that weren’t just in my group, it was really nerve racking and my voice was very shaky because of nerves however it really helped me and made me feel much more confident about performing on the 12th as others have heard me.

Project Meetings

First meeting 1st November 2018

In the first meeting we had about our live performance we made Adam and ben in charge of organising it because they are very good at getting things done. we also gave other people jobs swell for the performance. Adam and ben asked who would be performing and those not performing would be doing the tech and setting up the pa. during this meeting i decided that i would like to perform as i haven’t actually performed while being on the course due to confidence. we then also put someone else in charge of booking a venue and a date for this performance which hopefully we will find out availability soon. after this we all wrote on the whiteboard what songs we wanted to perform and saw if they were good enough to do, we also then got into groups, this formed our bands, me and millie decided to join together and do some songs with each other.

Second meeting

in this weeks meeting we got told that we have a venue and a date for our performance. we are performing at the jolly farmer in newton abbot on the 12th of December. ben came around to each of the practise rooms to ask what songs people were doing and me and millie decided to do two songs with Craig on piano, ben listened to them and said they were acceptable to perform at the performance.

Third meeting 29th November

in this weeks meeting we found out that we are playing inside the jolly farmer not outside as the weather has not been very good. we are also going over our roles as we have all been given different jobs for preparing for our performance, we also were told that on the 10th, 11th and 12th December we are having full dress rehearsals and doing full run throughs so we have the running order prepared when it comes to the show. we also have to finish our posters and make sure they’re ready for half 3 so Adam and ben can pick a poster to advertise the gig. we also needed to make sure everyone was recorded so we can send then off for our portfolios.

Development Blog

Review: 14th December 2018

After the performance at The Jolly farmer on the 12th December, we then decided to take a look at our 8 week development plan and see if for the gig any of these plans were achieved.

The things i have achieved of this plan is learning the lyrics and harmonies for our songs that we performed at the gig which were somewhere only we know, your song and stay. We also last minute learnt another song a week before the performance called whisper. i feel like i have definitely succeeded in gaining more confidence as i performed 4 songs at the gig in front of a pub full of people, and before i started this course i couldn’t even sing in front of one person so the gig at the jolly farmer has really helped me with my confidence.

However i have not yet learnt to play the drums, this is because in all of the songs that i performed i was a vocalist so next time we put on a performance i think i’m going to try and carry on learning the drums and more things on the piano/keys because after these past 8 weeks it still has not been accomplished.

We also fixed the situation making ‘your song’ less easy and boring by adding harmonies into it, this helped when it came to the gig because it made the song more interesting to watch otherwise it would of been a very boring song to perform as it was for all the other weeks that we were rehearsing it.

I have also learned to improve my vocal skills by doing vocal warm ups before practising a song, this really helped when coming to the gig because our voices were warm and compared to the rehearsals, the gig was the best my voice personally sounded. I also plan on still improving my vocal skills by not smoking, this is because on the day of the gig i did not smoke and my voice sounded a lot better and it was easier to hit hard notes.

During these 8 weeks i have not yet performed a solo and i did not do a solo at the gig, however there were parts in all of the songs where i would be singing on my own, so maybe for the next gig i will try and put myself out there a little more and do a solo as after the gig i have become a little more confident.

i still do not know how to properly set up a p.a system but i am still looking to learn and improve on that throughout the year. Overall i think that i have achieved quite a few things in my 8 week plan and things that i have not achieved i will continue to work on until i do succeed.
