PROJECT EVALUATION

With hindsight, what do you think about your original idea?

When me and millie first decided that we were going to perform a few songs together, we said we wanted to perform songs that we could add some good harmonies to. we grabbed a laptop and started to look up songs that we both liked the sound of and came to a decision of which couple songs we both liked, this was a good concept because that way we would both be singing a song that we enjoyed but would also be able to put twists on it that showed off both of our vocal abilities. The first couple of weeks preparing for the gig the roles for everybody was not very clear but as the weeks of rehearsing and after having a fe meetings we then agreed on who was doing the sound and who would be performing. we also had to know what instruments everyone needed and how many we would need because if everyone brought the same instruments then there would be too many. The commercial aspects we considered were how to organise the gig, so to be organised for this me and Millie made a poster to advertise the gig, we included when it was, what time and where the gig was, which was the Jolly Farmer. the final outcome turned out pretty good however after all of us making a poster and people choosing one, we didn’t use it in the end, i think this could of been better because that way the word about the gig would of gotten around more other than social media, such as families, children ect, this is because not everyone of all age groups have social media. My goals personally for this gig was to improve my confidence, this was successful because after this i felt more comfortable performing in front of people, however my confidence is still not great. my goals were also to become more improved on the piano and other instruments, this did not happen because i did not play an instrument at the gig, i only sang. me and millie both had equal input when it came to performing our songs, this was because if we both did not like an idea or how the song was sang, we would tell each other and give feedback for next time rehearsing the songs. in the end this turned out really good because we both performed how we wanted. With the original idea, i think the only think that went poorly was our choice of our third song that we chose to do, from the beginning me and Millie didn’t really like anything about this song, it was a nice song to listen to but every time we rehearsed it we just didn’t enjoy it, this was ‘ your song’ by ‘ Ellie Goulding’. even when it came to performing this song, i still liked performing our other two songs more. After realising we still did not like the song, only a week before the gig, me and millie decided to change the way we sang the song so then maybe we would like it a bit better. this did work however i still liked the other songs more.

Next focus on the build up of the project?

During the build up of the project, we all had to make our decisions ourselves without input from our tutors, this helped us for if we were ever in the music industry in the future and would have to organise something like this again ourselves, however i felt it was a little unorganised and if we had a little input from the tutors then the process and build up would of ran a lot smoother. the main people that organised the gig was Adam and Ben. They were in charge of the running order and basically managed the whole gig, they also arranged the meetings, these meetings were really helpful because it helped us to know what we were doing at the gig and when, we also arranged to set up pages on facebook, instagram ect so then we had an audience to perform to. during the build up we also had practical sessions so that then we could practice and have our songs done on time for the gig. Personally i think that the roles were not allocated fairly as i think that a lot of us did not do a lot apart from rehearse and tell Adam and Ben what we were doing for the gig, everything else was organised by them, which i did not think was fair and we should of all had roles instead of Adam and ben being left with everything. I think everyone at this gig played to their strengths and used their abilities wisely, this is because everyone was very nervous about performing but had the courage to get up and perform anyway, even though for some it might not have gone as-well as they wanted, however everyone still tried their best and it turned out to be a very successful performance. I did not know what was expected for this gig, but i did however try to my best ability and gave it my best shot even though i haven’t got a lot of confidence when it comes to performing. i feel that everyone did commit to the project but we all could of worked a lot harder when it came to the build up and organising things. I think overall when it came to performing the time management turned out successful but when being told about the gig we did get a little confused because we got told last minute that there was another performance in the street during the gig, this through everyone a little off track with the timings of everyones slots but it all came together in the end when it came to doing it. There wasn’t a lot of alterations apart from the morning of the performance people got a little stressed so Adam was thinking of changing the time to 7pm instead of 6pm, we ended up keeping it to 6pm because thats what everyone was told from the beginning. i think that the organisation of everything could of been a lot different because again everything was left to Adam and ben to organise which stressed them and everyone else out, other than that i wouldn’t of changed anything else throughout the whole build up to the performance. my input was successful with just me and millie as we both from the start knew what we wanted our songs to turn out like. i think what was good about my part was that when people would get stressed out and worried about how the gig would turn out, i kept myself to myself and did not throw my concerns at people while they were worrying about their own things, i just sorted and fixed it myself.

Reflection of the actual event

I think that the event was a huge success for me, this is because it really boosted my confidence and gave me confidence when it would come to performing in the future. everyone did do what they were supposed to do on the day, we just gold told to do some final rehearsing so we could get our songs finalised in time for the performance. everyone was very responsible and handled our last day very well. my responsibilities were to get mine and millies songs finalised and also to finish another song that we were performing with teag, this was because in my opinion this was the most successful song that i sang out of all three songs performed. However i still struggled with knowing how to set up the instruments, this wasn’t bad when it came to the performance but i still think it would be good knowing for the future when others wouldn’t be doing it for me. i do not think anything was forgotten when it came to the performance, even though it could of been more organised, we were still quite on top of things. we had a few problems with the sound on certain songs but it was not a huge issue and was easily dealt with. It was very clear as to what was happening and we all were very happy with how it turned out. i think for me what was most successful was singing ‘stay’ by ‘rihanna’. this is because when practicing this song i wouldn’t actually show what my voice could do as i was nervous but when it came to the gig i just let go and really pushed myself, and because of that it was a huge thing for me. i think what would of made the event better would be to have more confidence in myself and to not get so nervous, this is because when i get nervous it makes me want to not perform and i get worried that something would go wrong. i also think being more involved with the organising side of things would of made everything a lot better also. This would also benefit the group because then a lot of people would not of been as worried for something to go wrong because everything could have been sorted before hand to make sure nothing would go wrong.

How would you approach repeating the project and event again?

If we had to do this again then one thing that i would do differently is maybe choosing a different third song, this is because i just did not like this song from the start to finish of the whole process of the project. I would also maybe do a solo song, this is because it would improve my confidence and my vocal ability a lot more. to make sure this would happen, next time i am asked what to sing i will already have songs prepared so i wouldn’t rush to prepare them. i would also have a couple trio songs prepared too just in case i was to get nervous and wouldn’t want to perform alone. i think that the project is very much still viable. i think that my project idea could develop a-lot more if i also took part in the organising side of it as-well as just performing. i think adding more songs as a trio to the project, this is because our song that we performed as a trio went really successful and we all said that we really want to do more stuff as a three.

i think from this project, i have gained confidence, and knowledge of what other things my voice can do in the future.

this will help me in the future because i will then have the ability to get up and sing without panicking and getting nervous.
